About Twig Wizardry

If one is to believe that they will see the Fae, then one must come to live some truths which may be hard in practice ... at least for some of us.

Twig Wizardry's Fae and Sweet ShotziAs for me, I had no time for such fal-de-rol. For that matter, I would have said, “Fairys are the perfect example of human failing ..... the need to believe in things that are not real.”

I have lived my life in proximity to what I can touch, see and smell ... show me. But that said, things changed. My mother passed away.

It was a sacred thing and took my very breath away. I was unprepared by the weight of it, ponderous grief, and the connection I continued to feel; a very presence of her in dreams, on walks, while shopping for shoes! We had many talks, in the final years together, of her unwavering path on the road to heaven standing in contrast to my educated skepticism. But she left a letter that we found the day after her death. In it, she offered us her experiences and the means, that she found helpful, to get through our sadness. She guaranteed that time would be our best healer and that we would see her again and that she would be with us.

Well, that said, there is my friend Sylvia. She had wandered into the Land of Faery quite unexpectedly as a child ... apparently.  She BELIEVES and certainly seems, on occasion, quite enchanted. We met working in public television together. For her 50th birthday .... I wanted something special to give to her. I pondered all matter of books, tokens of friendship; perhaps a road-trip together. I was truly stumped. Then, there it was, just a day before her birthday party the MUSE CAME TO ME   . . .

Muse
a. A guiding spirit.
b. A source of inspiration.

... a Faery house for Sylvia’s Faeries!

The Wizard at work building Fairy HousesA Bird House crafted with swinging door took shape with Pierre’s old skills as a master carpenter. His penchant for small, detailed work with his hands soon revealed exquisite twig furniture in bed, chair and table. All of the furniture is made by him and is a real labor of love. They are tiny, 1-inch scale, works of art.

When I was presented with the tiny house and its twig pieces, I set about the business of the enchanted ones. What came of it is a peek into the enchanted lives of the Faery people. Mattresses, quilts and pillows are sewn from shimmering, iridescent fabric and ribbon and embroidery threads. Slippers and satiny, pieces of wardrobe are all sewn by me and scaled to ... fit a faerie, I reckon.  Quartz crystal tipped wands, thimbles of faery dust, ancient books of magical wisdom and those special companions to the fae, are all present. The Amber glow in each house, represets the faery's life force and their eternal desire; even need, for close proximity to our human lives.

Well, that was the beginning. Sylvia's Faerie house sits and glows and glows and glows to this day.The fae are always with her. That is to say that they live under the flower petals in her expansive garden, in her cup of tea, always in the gentle breeze, especially in her dreams, forever in her heart ... and yes they visit the Lighted Faery House; a quiet respite and gentle offering to those Dreamy Beings of that Enchanted Otherworld.

See here in our Lighted Faery Houses their ethereal visits; a bridge between our world and theirs; an acknowledgment of their mysterious lives and of our gentle intent.

Enchanted and Forever
in my Mother’s heart...

The Wiz, Fae and enchanted dogs live and work in Boulder, Colorado.

Taunted by fairies!Guinness is especially taunted by fairies, frequently while trying to snooze. He is mostly all energy and catching mice in the garden and well....he gets what he dishes. Sadly, Guinness has left us after a sudden acute kidney failure over the Thanksgiving holiday of 2005. Wizard, Shotzi and I were in a fit of heartbreak and so in January of 2006 we brought home a little red pup and we call him Killian Sparky Boy. Shotzi took to him immediately, but she is so very much older now and even though she enjoyed the company ... he was a bit much. A month later in February of 2006, we found Rubia, a runt of a Chihuahua, all blonde with white blazes and feet. Talk about a wee faerie of a dog!!! She is like no other we have ever had, from the largest German Shepard to these tiny MinPins and all of the mixed lovables in between. She is most surely enchanted, and certainly moves through this life guided by something entirely unseen by the Wiz and I. Well, perhaps not entirely...

Enchanted dogSweet Shotzi has raised 2 ferrets and an orphaned hooded rat in her day and is just as conversley rewarded by the lovelies with treats that appear from nowhere!

Our adored Guinness and Shotzi have left this world and never our hearts.

The WEE ONES ... Killian Sparky Boy and Rubia Ruby Doobie carry on for them and are doing a splendid job!!!
